Identifying and validating microRNA (miRs) downregulated in AML vs. myelodysplastic syndromes

Description: Identification of miRs down-regulated in AML in comparison with pre-leukemic conditions by using a RT-PCR microRNA array. After identification of the target miRs, in vitro assays using cell cultures, cell growth and experimental chemotherapy tests will be carried out. Training of PhD students from Romania in basic principles of tumor cell biology and molecular hematology.

Tasks: The Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy is responsible for carrying out the array experiments, as well as for data analysis, along with the Ion Chiricuta Institute of Oncology. All the cell culture experiments will also be carried out at the leading institution. Both institutions will be responsible for organizing joint meetings between senior researchers and young investigators, in order to provide the background for continuous medical education.
